We don’t just build sustainable homes because they are good for the planet’s resources, we do it because energy is an increasingly expensive utility.

The homes at Long Meadow will cost you less to run than traditional homes, without having cost you more. The completed homes are achieving and an Energy Performance Certificate that rates them at  level “B”, which gives a lower running cost than lower rated houses based on the same use.

There will be smart meters in all the homes which enable you to monitor your energy use easily. Experience has shown that this visible indicator leads home owners to reduce their energy consumption and save money.

Some of the homes will be monitored on behalf of the Department of Energy and Climate Change for the first five years of occupation in order to understand how they work in practice and learn for the future of sustainable building. If you are in one of those homes, you will be playing an important and very useful role, although of course it will be done on a confidential basis.
